Mini La Passion

I found that you've not seen my mini La Passion for many months now. I use every minute on my green one, and this mini with 1/4" hexies is neglected, I would say. Some more hexies are there every month though. Pattern by Grit Kovacs.

Hjertelig

Todays pincushion is the biggest I've ever made. Our bike rider in Tour de France took everyone's hearts today. So this paper pieced heart is to honour our own Edwald.

The second corner is now in work. Today we have summer here, and I've been out sewing all day.

Elefantlykke

My elephant has got a brother. Looked like they both liked it. After looking at each other some minutes, they started to play together. I really love those elephants. Here is the first one.

My La Passion has grown out of my house long ago. Today it was raining and blowing, but this afternoon I managed to take a picture out on my veranda. I love to round a new thousand, and now there's only 4 000 hexies left before I can finish this top.

Tutorial for a scrappy block

I was challenged to show how I made the scrappy blocks for the quilt I showed on my blog yesterday. So I have tried to sew a new block today. My friend rutigt has a scrap happy day on her blog today, so there you can find more scrappy projects. Have a nice time playing with fabrics.

Dig up some of your scrappy stripes.
Cut squares from different fabrics. I've used old curtains. My squares are 12x12 cm, or about 4,5x4,5".
I've marked 2 cm to start the first stripe at least more than that from the corner. I try to make it wonky, and won't measure at all when I go on.
As you can see I put the stripe a bit too near the corner. You can see in the finished block that this probably will be too close.

I sew 2 or 3 stripes on every square, until I can see just the corner.
I like the middle to be one colour, and here I've chosen blue. In the other quilt I used black or dark fabrics.
The back side is now like this, and it'n no problem to square it up.
Here I've joined 4 squares to give me the first block. I recommend to make many squares before you start to make the blocks. It's easier to find the most beautiful combinations then.
Here I've framed the blocks with fabrics from Kaffe Fassett. You can use ordinary sashing in one colour if you like. Good luck!

Gjensyn

Today I found one of my older quilts. You may recogize some of the fabrics. The frames are Kaffe Fassett, and the rest is a mix of old quilt fabrics and reused fabrics. In some way it is sort of modern just now.

Litt pirkarbeid, men morsom å sy.

Time to dig up my sewing machine, and a small project was just the right thing for me today. This tiny little elephant I found on Wonderful DIY. A bit tricky, but fun to make. I've used a beautiful fabric from Island Batik and thread from Aurifil. You can see the size when it's standing beside a spool. Think I have to make some friends for him tomorrow.

Herlig.

Today I found my La Passion and joined the 100 piece I made on holiday. Perfect.

Curvalicious challenge

The Island Batik Ambassadors challenge for June was to piece with curved lines. I've done a quilt like that before, so I thought that would be easy. After some struggeling, I found out of the technique. At the end it was really fun. And I find the result interesting and beautiful. The fantastic fabrics are making it even better. I love the "sour apples" series.

My new table runner is 12" x 34", just perfect for my table. And I got some beautiful flower yesterday to go with the runner. And I've also quilted flowers on the runner with Aurifil Thread.
